Ministry Staff Accountant

Department: Accounting
Location: Mandeville, LA

Job Title: Accounting Assistant

Purpose:
To perform accounting and administrative tasks that support ministry operations within the Accounting Department. This role is involved in all aspects of the accounting cycle, ensuring financial accuracy and supporting the overall ministry.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ministry Finance and Accounting Support:
    • Assist in the financial coordination of Global Missions Travel.
    • Support the weekly accounting of tithes and offerings.
    • Assist with special ministry projects as needed.
    • Collaborate with personnel across all ministries regarding purchases and financial needs.
  • Day-to-Day Accounting Responsibilities:
    • Create invoices and post payments accurately.
    • Post invoices and track payments.
    • Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
    • Reconcile General Ledger (GL) accounts and make journal entries.
    • Perform bank reconciliations and ensure proper balancing.
    • Assist with the month-end closing process.
    • Manage fixed asset accounting, including inventory and physical tracking.
    • Assist with annual audits.
    • Ensure proper revenue accounting and reporting.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform additional tasks as requested to support the smooth operation of the accounting department.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).

Professional/Work Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in accounting or a similar financial role.
  • Solid understanding and application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with weekly financial stewardship, including tithes and offerings in a ministry context.
  • Prior accounting experience in a ministry or nonprofit setting preferred.
  • General computer proficiency, especially in Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • At least five years of general ledger experience preferred.
